Cultivation

Astrantia is grown in the open ground in flower beds, in borders and as flowers for cutting. They are finally planted in the ground in the summer with a clod of earth; any soil, preferably sandy loam or loamy, is recommended when planting a complex fertilizer at the rate of 20-30 g /m2. Seedlings are placed at a distance of 30-40 cm from each other. In spring and summer, once every 15-20 days, a mineral complex fertilizer is added to the water for irrigation in the amount of 10 g per bucket.

Temperature

All types are resistant to temperature fluctuations, tolerate very low values (up to -17 °C).

Watering

Water regularly, primarily in the hot season to maintain a certain soil moisture content.

Care

After flowering, remove the wilted inflorescences.

Reproduction

Sowing of seeds is carried out in late summer in seedling boxes. Seedlings are thinned out and transplanted one at a time in pots next spring. Seedlings are planted in a permanent place in early summer. In early spring, you can also divide the Bush, immediately placing the resulting parts in the ground.

Diseases

If astrantia is provided with the correct location and follow the rules of irrigation, it shows resistance to pests and diseases. There may be spots on the leaves. They get rid of them by removing the affected parts or treating them with fungicides.

Acquisition

Check the seed shelf life when buying, because it is a guarantee of germination; choose seedlings that are compact and lush. The most decorative species are astrantia large and astrantia maxima.
