The genus Erantis, Vernal, or Lubnik (Eranthis), includes 7 species of herbaceous perennial plants characterized by flowering in late winter and early spring. These are crops with a thickened fleshy rhizome. Leaves are arm-shaped; basal leaves are long-stemmed and finely dissected. The stem is short, 15 cm high. The flowers are small, yellow with bracts in the form of a kind of frill. Eranthis cilicica (Eranthis cilicica) is a species 5-7 cm tall with elegant numerous green bracts. At the beginning of spring, intensely yellow flowers with a diameter of 2-3 cm bloom on pinkish peduncles. Winter erantis (E. hyemalis) is a species 9-10 cm tall with indented light green leaves. Flowers 2 cm in diameter - golden yellow, cup-shaped. They bloom from February to March. Erantis Tubergena (E. x thunbergii) is a garden hybrid obtained from crossing the two species listed above. It is taller than winter erantis, with larger spherical flowers of a rich yellow color. The "frill" consisting of bracts is green with a bronze tint. There are cultivars with fragrant flowers. For example, in "Guinea golden" they are golden-yellow, they bloom in March-April, and in "Glory" they are yellow, they appear earlier, in February-March.

Cultivation

Erantis are grown in plantings in the garden under deciduous trees and shrubs, which creates an ideal microclimate for their flowering and subsequent development, for stony gardens, rock gardens. Application of organic fertilizers or granular mineral fertilizers to the soil is recommended only during permanent planting. Soils for planting - any cultivated, with the addition of leaf humus.

Location

Lubnik species can be grown both in the open sun and in partial shade; these are so-called semi-shade-tolerant plants.

Temperature

Erantis are resistant to both high and low air temperatures.

Watering

Erantis plants do not require watering if the soil is loose, moist, or under the canopy of trees, except for the initial stage of development, when the plants are watered regularly.

Reproduction

In August, divide the rhizomes and plant them to a depth of 2-3 cm, observing the distance between the divided parts of 8-10 cm. Seeds quickly lose their germination, so they are sown immediately after harvesting. It is often propagated by self-seeding. Blooms for 2-3 years.

Diseases

Erantis is often damaged by smut-a disease that manifests itself in the form of black abscesses on leaves and flower-bearing shoots. When they open, spores are sown out of them in the form of a black powder. They get rid of it by treating it with appropriate fungicides.

Acquisition

Seedlings are bought in the spring, making sure that the young plants are in a healthy state.

Co-cultivation Co-cultivation refers to the cultivation of a number of plants belonging to different species, but with similar requirements for environmental conditions, which get along well together. Various hardy bulbous, rhizomatous and tuberous crops of early flowering grow successfully and in abundance in meadows and forests. Near the spring garden, the Caucasian snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis), white-flowered spring flower (Leucojum vernum), green hellebore (Helleborus viridis), Erythronium dens-canis, two-leaved woodland (Scilla bifolia), and noble liverwort are often found. (Hepatica nobilis), two-flowered crocus (Crocus biflorus) or spring crocus (Crocus vernus). Decorative forms and varieties of these species, purchased in horticultural centers and specialized nurseries and planted on your site, will delight you with a variety of colors. Only in the year of planting, flowering ends earlier.
