Allamanda

Cultivation

These are plants that require tropical climate conditions if they are grown in the open ground. They can be kept at home, if placed as close as possible to the glazed door, veranda. Use a mixture of turf (40%), peat (20%), sand (20%) and leaf humus (20%) or peat of another type. Top dressing is done with a mineral fertilizer of prolonged action in the amount of 30-40 g per bucket of soil. During the growth period, from spring to autumn, feed 1 time a week with liquid fertilizer in the amount of 10 ml per bucket of water. When the growth of Allamanda stops, you can cut off the overgrown branches.

Location

Allamandas need a very well-lit place, open sun.

Temperature

It tolerates summer heat well, and in winter plants need an air temperature of at least 18 °C. The soil temperature should also not fall below 18 °C.

Watering

Plants need a lot of water. In spring and summer, watering is always frequent, and in autumn and winter it is noticeably reduced.

Transplant

Transplanted annually in spring in pots corresponding to the development of the root system. For strongly growing laxative Allamanda, the maximum pot diameter is 50 cm and 20-30 cm for smaller plants, such as black-leaved Allamanda. Top dressing is mandatory in summer.

Care

Keep the plant looking neat by removing wilted flowers and yellowed or damaged parts.

Reproduction

For propagation of Allamanda, semi-woody cuttings are cut in spring and rooted at a temperature not lower than 22 °C with high humidity. Use a mixture of peat and sand in equal parts.

Diseases

When growing in pots, there may be problems with whiteflies, which are disposed of with a special insecticide. If the environment is too dry, the plants may be affected by spider mites. in this case, acaricide treatment is carried out, and then they try to maintain high humidity in the surrounding air.

Acquisition

This is not a very common plant, and it can only be found in flower shops and gardening centers with an expanded range of crops, where Allamanda is available for sale all year round. The best time to buy is in spring and autumn, when the crop can be immediately planted in a permanent place.
