The genus Dipladenia (Dipladenia) unites about 30 tropical species of small trees, shrubs and lianas (the latter will be described below) - evergreens, some of them are used as indoor plants. Bright five-petaled funnel-shaped flowers are very decorative. Flowering occurs in summer. In indoor culture, only bred varieties and hybrids are grown. Dipladenia boliviensis (Dipladenia boliviensis), up to 4 m high, with shiny elongated-ovate leaves and white flowers with a yellow center. Dipladenia Sander (D. sanderi) grows up to 3 m, with leathery oval-pointed leaves. The flowers are pink with a yellow center. The variety 'Pink' (the so-called Brazilian jasmine) is distinguished by glossy leaves and large flowers. Dipladenia glistensis (D. splendens) reaches a height of 4.5 m, with elliptical, heart-shaped, shiny leaves at the base. The flowers are pink with a yellow center, the fused part of the corolla on the outside is white. A variety with carmine-pink or red flowers is known. Dipladenia prelestnaya (D. x andmoena) is bred by crossing the hybrid dipladenia agreeabla (D. x amabilia) and dipladenia brilliant. Its flowers are larger than those of the botanical species; the color of the corolla is dark-pink, the central part is yellow.

Cultivation

Plants of the genus Dipladenia are quite rare in indoor culture. In summer, they can be put out in the open air: on balconies and terraces. For cultivation, use soil from a mixture of garden land and peat (1:2) with the addition of sand. The substrate is enriched with a complex fertilizer of prolonged action at the rate of 30 g per bucket. In the spring and summer period, once every 20 days, a complex fertilizer of 10-20 g per bucket is also added to the water for irrigation. For climbing species, supports are installed. At the end of flowering, the aboveground part is cut off to stimulate branching, because the flowers bloom only on shoots of the current year.

Location

The room should be bright - the plant needs intense, but diffused lighting; direct sunlight should be avoided. The place where the dipladenia is located should be protected from drafts.

Temperature

In winter, the temperature should not fall below 12-15 °C, and the normal development of the plant is observed at a temperature not lower than 18 °C.

Watering

The plant is often watered and doused with water, properly wetting the leaves. It is necessary to maintain high humidity in the room.

Transplant

Every spring, dipladenia is transplanted into a larger pot. The maximum diameter should not exceed 20-30 cm. Subsequently, they are limited to replacing the surface layer of the soil.

Care

When caring for dipladenia, withered flowers and damaged parts of the plant are removed.

Reproduction

In spring, sometimes in summer, to propagate dipladenia, cut off stem cuttings. For rooting, they are planted in a substrate of a mixture of peat and agroperlite, taken in equal parts, put in a protected place with a temperature of 22-24 °C and often sprayed. When the cuttings take root, they are planted one at a time in pots with a diameter of 12-14 cm.

Diseases

For plants of the genus Dipladenia, the spider mite poses a serious threat, as a result of its vital activity, mottling and yellowing of leaves occur. They get rid of it with the help of one of the acaricidal drugs. Excessive watering and growing in unsuitable soil can lead to root rot.

Acquisition

Potted copies of dipladenia are sold in nurseries and gardening centers. Choose well-formed plants with healthy leaves and roots.
